Google's AI Platform Gemini Accesses Gmail and Workspace Data

Gemini, Google’s flagship AI platform, has been integrated across its productivity applications, including Gmail, to provide AI-powered features such as email summarization and task list creation. These features require Gemini to access and analyze user email content. Google maintains that personal Gmail emails are not used to train its foundational AI models, including Gemini, and that user emails are only processed when necessary to complete a specific user request. However, there is a condition attached to this, as user permissions can alter how certain data is processed, and derived information from interactions between Workspace content and Google’s search ecosystem may be used to improve services.
