Finland Investigates Google Over 330 Hectares of Forest Cut for Data Center
Finland starts investigation against Tuike Finland, a Google subsidiary, over potential environmental law violations.
The Finnish authorities are investigating Tuike Finland, a Google subsidiary, over potential environmental law violations after 330 hectares of forest were cleared for a data center project.
Similar to other northern countries, Finland is attractive to tech companies planning to build data centers due to its relative geopolitical stability, extensive land, and cold climate, which allows for reduced energy costs.
The Finnish police have stated that based on preliminary information, there are uncertainties and omissions in the water management and governance of the construction site of Tuike Finland’s data center project.
