Belgian Supermarkets Hit by Widespread Cooling System Failure

Delhaize, Carrefour, and Spar affected, with temperatures reaching 50 degrees Celsius.

The cooling systems in several Belgian supermarkets, including Delhaize, Carrefour, and Spar, have failed, with temperatures reaching as high as 50 degrees Celsius. The failure is believed to be the result of a cyberattack, with hackers gaining access to the management accounts of the companies responsible for maintaining the cooling systems.

Experts say that if hackers can gain access to a management account, they can cause significant damage. Patrick Hauspie, an expert in cybersecurity, explained that hackers can use the account to make changes to the system, install new software, or even shut down the system entirely.

The motive behind the attack is still unclear, but Hauspie suggests that it may be a financially motivated attack, with hackers seeking to extort money from the supermarkets in exchange for restoring the cooling systems.
