Almost Half of New Steam Games in October 2026 Used AI-Generated Content
The use of AI-generated content in new Steam games has increased significantly since 2024.
A recent analysis of over 63,000 games on Steam found that almost half of new games in October 2026 used AI-generated content. This is a significant increase from 2024, when only 1.7% of new games used AI. The analysis, conducted by a Reddit user, found that the use of AI-generated content has been steadily increasing over the past few years. In 2024, 13.2% of new games used AI, while in 2025, 24% did. In 2026, the use of AI-generated content has reached 40.1% of new games, with October seeing the highest monthly rate of 49.9%.
The analysis also found that smaller games are more likely to use AI-generated content, with 47% of games with less than 10 reviews on Steam using AI. In contrast, games with over 1,000 reviews are less likely to use AI, with only 14% doing so. The most common use of AI-generated content is for illustrations and visual content, which makes up 63% of all AI-related content. Text and translations are the second most common use, making up 30% of all AI-related content.
The analysis also found that developers who release multiple games are more likely to use AI-generated content, with 68% of their games using AI. In contrast, developers who release only one game are less likely to use AI, with only 37% doing so.
