Untapped AI Files US Patent Applications for AI Voice-Clone Scam Protection
Cape Town start-up Untapped AI has filed patent applications for technology to verify the source of phone calls.
The technology, which has been tested, involves a cryptographic key that changes with every call and analyzes the sound’s frequency, gaps, and other signal markers to verify the call’s integrity.
The company’s director, Lloyd Matthew, said the technology will only protect people once mobile networks or businesses install it at both ends of a call.
The technology is aimed at stopping criminals who use AI to clone voices and pose as banks, bosses, and family members, a growing concern in South Africa and overseas.
