Ukrainian Drone Attacks Hammer Russia's Finance Ministry Data Center

A Ukrainian drone attack has damaged a Russian government data center, which reportedly holds tax databases and is a key facility in Russia's national information system.

The data center, operated by Russia’s Finance Ministry, is one of the two key data processing centers for the Federal Tax Service, which runs on a geographically distributed model. The attack may impact the operation of Russia’s national information system.

This is the third time Ukraine has targeted Russian data centers since October, in response to Moscow’s earlier escalation of the conflict and attacks on Ukrainian data centers.

The use of data centers as key infrastructure in modern warfare has become increasingly prevalent, with services such as Yandex’s robot traffic experiencing disruptions in the aftermath of the attack.
