South Korea's chipmakers reap record profits from AI boom

South Korean memory chip giant SK Hynix kept almost 80% of its total sales as operating profit last quarter, a margin almost unheard of in manufacturing.

Operating profit soared 632% in the three months to September from a year earlier to 83.33 trillion won, SK Hynix reported on Wednesday.

Analysts had expected the company to report an operating profit of about 77 trillion won.
