South African Businesses Struggle to Scale AI Adoption
Data readiness, budget constraints, and ROI measurement hinder AI implementation
A survey of 116 South African businesses reveals a gap between enthusiasm for AI and the ability to translate it into measurable business value. Only 9% of respondents have a fully mature AI strategy, while 35% are still in the early stages. Data readiness is a significant challenge, with just 16% of respondents saying their data infrastructure is fully ready for AI.
Businesses are working to align AI initiatives with business objectives, governance requirements, and measurable outcomes. However, they struggle to build the frameworks, operating models, and execution plans required to move from experimentation to enterprise-wide adoption.
The survey highlights the need for organisations to develop strong data foundations, improve data quality, and integrate systems to support AI applications reliably and securely.
