Romania Extends Ban on Russian Software in Public Institutions
Romania's Senate has extended the ban on Russian software in public institutions until December 31, 2035.
The Romanian Senate has adopted a legislative proposal to extend the ban on the acquisition, installation, and use of Russian software products and services by public authorities for the protection of their computer systems. This decision is seen as a significant step for the country’s cybersecurity. The ban was initially set to expire on December 31, 2026, but has been extended to 2035. The extension aims to ensure continuity of the protection framework and prevent potential security breaches. According to President of the Senate Mircea Abrudean, Romania cannot afford vulnerabilities in its critical infrastructure, especially in the context of the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
