OpenAI Publishes 372 Mathematical Results Generated by AI Model

The results, which could potentially change the course of science, are available on GitHub but require verification by independent researchers.

OpenAI has shared hundreds of mathematical results obtained with one of its AI models, which have not been made public yet. The results are part of 372 families of results and 719 manuscripts, covering various mathematical problems. The company has also published materials to examine some of the demonstrations using a computer. However, not all results have been verified, and OpenAI acknowledges that some may contain errors.

The announcement was made on October 6, and the materials are available on the GitHub platform. According to OpenAI, it expanded mathematical testing after its models’ performance stopped improving in previous evaluations. During the process, it posed approximately 4,000 problems to the internal model.

The company notes that most results were obtained using the same procedure. On average, each result required computational resources equivalent to three hours of reasoning by ChatGPT Pro with that internal model.
