NITDA Tightens Cybersecurity Rules for MDAs, Mandates DNS Security Assessments
NITDA has issued a directive ordering MDAs to bolster their institutional cybersecurity postures and implement DNSSEC.
The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has officially issued a strict directive ordering all federal Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to immediately bolster their institutional cybersecurity postures. Under the newly tightened regulatory stance, the apex IT governance body has formally integrated Domain Name System (DNS) security into its national cybersecurity compliance assessment framework, making comprehensive DNS Security Extensions (DNSSEC) mandatory across all government digital platforms.
The policy pronouncement was made during a high-level Cybersecurity Awareness Month webinar co-hosted by the Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA) through its .ng Academy. Themed “Securing Nigeria’s Digital Foundation: DNSSEC, the .ng Domain, and the Future of National Cyber Resilience,” the gathering brought together key policy formulators, technical leads, and stakeholders from across Nigeria’s digital economy ecosystem.
The move comes at a critical juncture for Nigeria’s public institutions. As e-governance initiatives expand ranging from public service portals and tax collection engines to identity management databases state infrastructure has increasingly become a prime target for local and international threat actors.
