Most Slovenian Citizens Use AI, But Experts Question Its Understanding

Slovenia sees a surge in AI adoption, but experts debate whether AI truly understands what it's doing.

Slovenia has seen a significant increase in the use of artificial intelligence (AI) among its citizens, with 62% of the population using AI tools in the first quarter of this year, a 24% point increase from last year. The technology is particularly popular among the young, with 90% of them using AI, and 93% of students, pupils, and students. Even among the elderly, the use of AI has increased, with 28% of those aged 65-74 and 30% of retirees using AI. The most common use of AI is for searching for information, which was cited by 58% of respondents. A third of users use AI for writing, summarizing, or translating text, while 18% use it for creating images and videos, and 7% for programming. The rapid adoption of AI has also been seen in Slovenian companies, with 38% of them using AI, up from 22% last year. The largest companies have seen the highest adoption rate, with 83% using AI, followed by medium-sized companies at 52%, and small companies at 34%. The most common use of AI in companies is for administration and management, information security, and marketing and sales. However, only 9% of companies have a document outlining guidelines, policies, or procedures for using AI. The widespread use of AI has also raised concerns about trust, with 72% of citizens encountering fake or dubious information online, and 87% of young people encountering such content. Experts warn that AI systems can perpetuate social biases and prejudices, and that their development should be approached with caution.
