Microsoft Abandons UK Data Center Project Due to Electricity Grid Issues
Microsoft has canceled a data center project in the UK due to repeated delays and electricity grid issues.
The project, which was to be built in Loughton, Essex, has been plagued by delays and concerns over the availability of electricity.
The UK’s National Grid has informed Nscale, the cloud services provider, that it does not expect the site to be connected to the electricity grid until the 2030s.
The lack of electricity is a major problem for the development of infrastructure needed for artificial intelligence, as data centers hosting AI training and operation systems require large amounts of electricity.
