Malaysia seizes smuggled AI chips worth US$12 million at Kuala Lumpur airport
Malaysian customs seized advanced AI chips worth US$12 million, as authorities close in on a smuggling syndicate.
Malaysia imposed export controls last year on the movement of advanced AI chips of US origin, following pressure from the United States to stem their flow into China.
The seizure was made at Kuala Lumpur International Airport’s free-trade zone, where 30 server units containing advanced AI chips were found during an inspection.
The total value of the seized chips is about 49.5 million ringgit, or US$12 million.
