Malaysia's Cyber Neutrality at Risk Amid US-China Tech Rivalry
Malaysia's reliance on American and Chinese tech may make its cyber neutrality difficult to sustain.
Malaysia’s Defence Minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin stated that the country remains non-aligned in all domains, including cyberspace, to avoid viewing cyber threats through a geopolitical lens.
However, analysts warn that Malaysia’s reliance on foreign technology may leave its critical systems exposed to disruptions in the event of a major power confrontation.
This could result in sanctions, export controls, and other curbs that could compromise the country’s cyber neutrality.
