Largest Breach Ever in Danish CPR Register
8.8 million people's personal data, including names and addresses, accessed by unauthorized parties.
According to Professor Jens Myrup Pedersen, the breach is the largest ever in the Danish CPR register. The unauthorized access occurred through a company that has access to the CPR system. The professor hopes that the breach will lead to a review of the security mechanisms in place, including those that prevent unauthorized access and those that require companies to have access to the register to have only what they need.
The data accessed includes names, addresses, and CPR numbers of both living and deceased individuals. The professor notes that the breach is particularly concerning because it includes both CPR numbers and addresses, making it easier for hackers to target individuals.
The breach has been reported to the National Unit for Specialized Crime (NSK), which has launched a high-priority investigation. The Ministry of Higher Education and Science has also been informed.
