Iran Threatens to Destroy Undersea Internet Cables and AI Data Centers

Iran's top security official warns that critical digital infrastructure, including undersea internet cables and AI data centers, may be targeted in a potential conflict.

Iran’s top security official has warned that critical digital infrastructure, including undersea internet cables and AI data centers, may be targeted in a potential conflict. This comes as tensions in the Middle East escalate, with Iran’s Mohsen Rezaei, the head of the Supreme National Security Council, issuing a statement that if the conflict escalates, ‘important digital and technological infrastructure of the world, such as undersea internet cables, data centers, and AI facilities,’ may be at risk.

The threat has sparked a betting market on the Polymarket platform, with odds suggesting a 6% chance that Iran or its proxies will destroy the undersea cables before the end of October. Analysts, however, see this as a possible ploy to deter or provoke the US.

Satellite images have revealed evidence of Iran’s efforts to strengthen its nuclear facilities and prepare for potential new attacks from the US, which could come after the midterm elections.
