Indian Cybercriminals Use AI to Clone Voices, Create Deepfakes

Cybercriminals in India are using AI tools to manipulate photographs, clone voices and create fake videos to blackmail people, said cybersecurity investigator Amit Pandey.

Victims are often threatened with the circulation of fabricated content among their family members, friends and professional contacts unless they pay money.

The operations involve multiple bank accounts and intermediaries, making it difficult for investigators to trace stolen money and identify those controlling the networks.
