Google's Finnish Data Center Project Faces Criminal Investigation for Environmental Violations

Finnish police launch a criminal investigation into Google's data center project in Muhos, Finland, for alleged environmental damage.

Google’s Finnish subsidiary, Tuike, is being investigated for violating the Water Act and causing environmental damage at its data center construction site in Muhos, Finland.

The police investigation was launched after it was discovered that Google had cleared over 330 hectares of forest in Muhos and nearly 200 hectares in Kajaani without completing the required environmental impact assessment.

The Finnish authorities had informed Google in May that it must complete the environmental impact assessment before clearing the forest, but the project continued for several months.
