Gangneung City Inspects AI Data Center Construction Site

Gangneung City in Gangwon Province inspected the construction site of an AI data center in North Pyeong, a general industrial complex, ahead of its planned start in December. The data center project has been underway since a business agreement was signed between Gangwon Province, Gangneung City, and GS Group in July. The city completed the construction permit for the first 100MW data center on October 1. The city is now pushing forward with the follow-up procedures for the December start.

National AI Strategy Committee Vice Chairman Ha Jung-woo visited Gangneung City on the same day to inspect the construction site and the major power industry facilities. He also met with GS Gangwon Power to discuss the power supply situation for the data center.

The city plans to continue inspecting the major issues related to the power and water supply, and the construction of the data center, in collaboration with relevant institutions. It also aims to enhance the regional economic effects of the data center by reviewing the possibilities of linking the data center with local industries and attracting related companies and training professionals.
