Former Cyberport Head Charged Over HK$20 Million Tech Subsidy Fraud
A former department head of Hong Kong's fintech hub Cyberport has been charged with accepting bribes to help an AI start-up secure HK$20 million in funding.
Alice So Nga-lai, former head of entrepreneurship of the Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company, was accused of receiving advantages in return for pushing subsidies for the AI start-up.
The bribery charges allege she was given several tickets for round-trip flights between Hong Kong, Thailand, and Japan.
The AI start-up was seeking HK$20 million (US$2.25 million) in funding from a government-subsidised programme.
