Finnish authorities investigate Google over alleged environmental law breaches
Finnish police are investigating Google over possible environmental law breaches related to a data center project.
The investigation focuses on alleged irregularities in drainage and water management on the construction site.
Google was ordered to stop preparatory work on two sites in Muurame and Oulunsalo, about 100 km southeast of Helsinki, due to the company’s failure to complete necessary environmental assessments before clearing the land.
The company has apologized for the felling of around 250,000 trees in Muurame and 150,000 in Oulunsalo, with a total area of around 200 hectares cleared in the second region.
