Finland: Google cleared 250,000 trees illegally for data centers
Residents are outraged, saying they don't want the data centers in their area
Behind a wooden fence in a rural area of northern Finland, a vast and chaotic ‘wound’ on the land stretches. Before the arrival of Google, a few months ago, about 25 hectares of land were cleared, and now the area is home to a large data center. The residents of the area are upset about the destruction of the natural environment and the impact on their quality of life. They claim that the data centers were built without their consent and that they do not want them in their area. The Google data center is one of several in the region, and the company has been accused of ignoring local concerns and environmental regulations.
