Disney to Acquire Character.AI Assets and Hire Most of Its Workforce
Disney offers jobs to at least 60 Character.AI employees and acquires some of its assets in a $20 million deal.
The deal includes estimated annual compensation of $60 million for the employees offered positions at Disney, and most of them have accepted the offers.
The arrangement could provide a landing place for much of Character.AI’s workforce as the company faces financial pressure, legal liabilities, and regulatory scrutiny over its chatbot services.
Disney’s former chief executive, Karandeep Anand, recently became Disney’s first chief technology officer, giving the company an executive with experience leading an AI startup as it expands its technology capabilities.
