Data Center Firm Wins Woodbine Well Permit Near Princeton as Texas Freezes New Projects
A data center company secured a permit to drill a well near Princeton, Texas, as the state freezes new data center approvals.
The North Texas Groundwater Conservation District approved the permit for BT Aycock Data Center LLC to drill a well on a 50-acre property, which could eventually pump 5.56 million gallons of water from the Woodbine Aquifer.
The approval comes as Texas Governor Greg Abbott has moved to rein in the data center boom, issuing an executive directive to audit data center projects and pause new grid connections.
The well has a production capacity of 150 gallons per minute and draws from the Woodbine Aquifer, which stretches across 17 counties in North Texas.
