Colombia Leverages Geospatial AI to Transform Infrastructure Planning and Disaster Response
Esri Colombia's technology integrates geospatial data, satellite imagery, and AI to inform decision-making.
Esri Colombia is developing geospatial AI capabilities to integrate data, maps, satellite imagery, and remote sensors. This technology allows organizations to better understand the territory and make informed decisions. This year, Esri Colombia has focused on geospatial AI, moving from demonstrations to concrete use cases. They have worked with national and local government entities to create digital twins, virtual representations of territories where scenarios can be simulated. For example, they can analyze how traffic in a city would be affected by heavy rainfall and flooding.
Esri Colombia has also developed solutions for risk management and environmental monitoring. They can combine climate information, water availability, vegetation cover, infrastructure, and vulnerable population data to identify areas susceptible to fires and other events, generate early warnings, and prioritize response actions. In the case of the Metro de Bogotá, they integrated the route and stations with 3D models and geospatial data to analyze the project against demographic and environmental variables, identify potential impacts on wetlands, and conduct inventories of trees and wildlife to evaluate management and relocation measures.
The company has also worked with EPM to use AI to optimize processes such as pruning trees near power lines. They generated 3D models from drone-captured images and specialized sensors to identify areas where vegetation intervention is required, allowing crews to focus on specific points rather than covering the entire area, improving efficiency and control over operations.
