Cloud9 Raises $1M Pre-Seed to Scale Stablecoin-Powered Cross-Border Payments
Kenyan fintech startup Cloud9 secures $1 million in funding to expand cross-border payment corridors and enhance product ecosystem.
Cloud9 has rapidly gained traction since launching its core product in early 2026, onboarding over 25,000 accounts and recording week-over-week transaction growth exceeding 15%. The platform positions itself as a comprehensive financial infrastructure layer for African merchants, allowing them to bypass the friction of traditional correspondent banking.
Users can hold balances in multiple currencies, including Kenyan shillings, US dollars, euros, British pounds, and Chinese yuan. Behind the scenes, Cloud9 leverages stablecoins, specifically USDC and USDT, as a settlement layer to move value across borders instantly.
The new funding will be deployed to expand Cloud9’s cross-border payment corridors, enhance its product ecosystem, and launch both physical and virtual cards as it aggressively scales its base of African businesses engaged in global trade.
