Canadian Cybersecurity Executive Arrested on Cyber Extortion Charges

Edward Dubrovsky, a 54-year-old Canadian executive, was arrested in Pennsylvania on federal cyber extortion charges.

Dubrovsky has held senior positions at cybersecurity companies that help organizations respond to ransomware attacks and negotiate extortion payments.

He was the founder and former COO of CYPFER, a global cybersecurity company that works with breach victims, and also recently published a book about handling cyber extortion.

The arrest comes as U.S. authorities intensify efforts against ShinyHunters, a prolific cybercriminal group believed by the FBI to have breached more than 140 organizations and extracted more than $70 million through extortion over the past year.
