Brussels Data Center to Consume Up to 3% of City's Electricity Demand
The new data center, BRU01, will consume around 3% of Brussels' electricity demand, according to a parliamentary question.
The data center, located in Neder-Over-Heembeek, will have a power supply of 20 MW, with an additional 20 MW to be released for the second phase, starting in 2028.
The total energy consumption of the data center is estimated to be 140 GWh per year, which corresponds to around 3% of the current electricity demand in the Brussels region, estimated at 4,900 GWh for 2025.
The data center’s energy efficiency is considered to be a positive aspect, with relatively low electricity loss in cooling and other installations, and water consumption per kilowatt-hour meeting the sector’s target.
