Artificial Intelligence Tested in Over 20 Russian Regions

Russian courts in over 20 regions have started testing artificial intelligence in several tasks.

The Russian Supreme Court has chosen three areas for the introduction of AI: searching and analyzing judicial practice and legal positions of the Supreme Court, identifying errors and inconsistencies in documents, and automatic recording of court sessions. The specialists first check the reliability of individual tools, then plan to use them in work. The mandatory part of the introduction is the training of judges to work with AI.

In the medium term, all Russian courts should have access to such services. The Supreme Court has already approved the concept of introducing the technology. The implementation is carried out by the Center for Judicial Competences in the field of AI, created at the court. The main task of these services is to reduce the time spent on searching materials and processing documents.

The check should cover not only the accuracy of citations and the details of decisions, but also whether the found practice relates to the case being considered. Otherwise, the time saved on preparing data will turn into additional work to correct errors.
