AI Tool Can Predict Cancer Patient Survival from Face Photo
A new AI tool can predict cancer patient survival from a single face photo, according to a study published in The Lancet Digital Health.
Researchers at Mass General Brigham in Massachusetts developed the tool, which uses data from over 40 million face photos to estimate a person’s biological age and predict their survival.
The tool, called FAHR-FaceSurvival, analyzes the area under the eyes and the nose root to predict survival directly from a face photo, without estimating biological age.
The study found that patients who appeared at least five years older than their actual age had a 21% higher risk of death, while those who appeared at least five years younger had a 17% lower risk of death.
