AI Predicts Cardiovascular Risk Up to 10 Years in Advance
Researchers from Emory University developed an AI method to estimate cardiovascular disease risk based on EKG recordings during sleep.
The AI method was trained on data from nearly 16,000 patients and then tested on two additional datasets, totaling around 23,000 individuals.
The analysis showed that each standard deviation increase in the AI’s risk estimate was associated with a 103-172% higher risk of atrial fibrillation, a 19-40% higher likelihood of stroke, a 69-133% higher risk of heart failure, and a 65-82% higher mortality rate.
The study suggests that EKG analysis during sleep with advanced algorithms could become a valuable addition to existing methods for assessing cardiovascular risk and identifying high-risk individuals early on.
