AI Helps Identify Genes for Dodo Bird Rebirth
Scientists used AI to identify over 2,300 regulatory DNA elements linked to the dodo's distinctive beak and skull.
Researchers from Colossal Biosciences used a system called GenoMorph to analyze genetic data from various bird species.
They identified 653 potential regulatory elements linked to beak size and 1,698 linked to beak thickness and width.
The next step is to experimentally test these elements and possibly edit the genomes of living birds.
