China's Open-Source AI Chip Alliance Challenges Nvidia's Global Dominance

Two Chinese tech giants have formed a collaboration to develop open-source AI software for chips, aiming to reduce dependence on US-dominated semiconductor ecosystem.

The initiative responds to Washington’s export restrictions, which have limited Chinese companies’ access to high-performance processors in the global market. The collaboration aims to develop open-source AI software for chips, reducing dependence on US-dominated semiconductor ecosystem.

One of the partners has revealed a hardware roadmap extending to 2029, including the launch of its next-generation chip, Ascend 960DT, in the first quarter of 2027, three quarters ahead of the original schedule.

The move has implications for AI adoption in emerging markets, as it reduces the risk of technological concentration on a single provider, making it a strategic variable for resilience.
