AI Makes SOC Work More Efficient, but Also Raises Bar for Cybersecurity Career
AI has improved the efficiency of SOC work, but also makes it harder for new entrants to get into the field.
The study found that 88% of SOC professionals and leaders in the US and UK said that AI has made their work more satisfying. However, 47% of them expect AI to make it harder to get into the cybersecurity field by increasing the requirements for junior roles or reducing the opportunities for building basic experience.
The most immediate effect of AI is increased capacity, with 47.7% of respondents citing the ability to handle more security activity as one of the two most significant changes since their organizations introduced AI. 35.5% said they had more time for complex threat investigations, while 35% reported more time for strategic or cross-functional work.
The study also found that automating repetitive tasks has reduced the time spent on investigating known or repeated threat patterns by 43.3%, while developing response or mitigation recommendations followed with 34% and alarm triage with 32%.
